Charlie Bigham provided inspiration and tips to small businesses on sustainability (view the full recording here).

“Sustainability isn’t something that comes up in a crisis, it underpins everything.  You cannot possibly hope to be a good business unless you are sustainable.”

Food entrepreneur and founder of Bigham’s quality prepared foods, Charlie Bigham, shared  insights into his approach to running a sustainable business in the first in a series of ‘occasional conversations’ hosted by Minerva.

During the conversation, Charlie shared his own personal business experiences and insights into running his award-winning company as well as his approaches to sustainability.  A wide range of topics were discussed including accreditation, the importance of value and profit, waste management, risk and growth.

Charlie revealed how he and the Bigham’s team have responded to the challenges and opportunities presented by the pandemic and the vital need for all businesses to be sustainable in order to  improve and grow.

Having recently secured B Corps accreditation, the food entrepreneur talked candidly about his reasons behind this decision: “Accreditation [for us] is not about getting the badge it’s the process and the journey which are important….and I am excited about how B Corps is going to make us a better business.”

A live Q & A session followed the broadcast of the recorded interview providing an opportunity for attendees to ask questions of the award-winning business leader.  Attendees were delighted to hear first-hand from our guest and found the conversation both inspiring and informative.

Gerald FitzGerald, founder and owner of Peaberry Coffee Roasters, commented: “I thoroughly enjoyed the session and soaked up lots of information in the process… I can’t reiterate enough again how valuable I found the webinar.”

The ‘Back Chat’ occasional conversation series focuses on the role of sustainability in helping businesses to ‘build back better’ and progress their journey to an economically and environmentally sustainable future. Further online sessions are planned for the New Year with leaders from different business sectors joining the Minerva team in conversation.

Minerva launches first in new occasional conversation series – Back Chat: Sustainability conversations to build back better – with Charlie Bigham founder of Charlie Bigham’s

18th November

Minerva are pleased to announce the launch on 3rd December at 12 noon of our new Occasional Conversation series – Back Chat: Sustainability conversations to build back better and kicks off with Charlie Bigham, founder of Charlie Bigham’s.

During each conversation Minerva will be joined by guests from different business sectors continuing to drive sustainability in their business models during these challenging times.  Our aim is to support smaller businesses, charities and organisations to ‘build back better’ and progress their journey to an economically and environmentally sustainable future.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from leaders of organisations driving change during lockdown – from personal and business perspectives – their experiences, current thinking, ideas, and advice.

Director of Minerva, Rhonda Smith, says: “The guest speakers joining us will demonstrate why their honest and active sustainability actions during these challenging times are helping them drive positivity and plan for their ‘new normal’. Sharing these experiences can both inspire and inform others to help build a sustainable future.”

The occasional conversations and live Q & A sessions are aimed at business owners, senior managers and those responsible for growth and/or reputation within smaller organisations and SMEs.

During our first session, attendees will hear our conversation with Charlie, founder of Charlie Bigham’s, the producer of high-end ready meals and then participate in a live Q & A session. Bigham’s has recently secured certification with B Corps, won awards for their newly released desserts and hosted the innovative online Bigham’s Banquet. In his conversation Charlie shares honest accounts of his experiences during lockdown and the impact the pandemic has had on his business and ability to drive forward with the business’ sustainability agenda.

Don’t miss Charlie’s ‘hot tip’ for ensuring no food is wasted during the festive season!
