Minerva is pleased to announce that one of the projects it supports, the I.Family Study, has won a communications impact award.

The CommNet Impact Awards recognise excellence in science communication and were presented at a ceremony in Brussels at the end of 2014.  First prize went to I.Family, thanks to its success at engaging effectively with young people.

The project’s Italian cohort created a partnership with a local football team and increased the number of children participating in their research, by offering free tickets to matches and stadium tours.

I.Family is an EC-funded scientific research project investigating the determinants of food choice, lifestyle and health in European children, adolescents and their parents.  Minerva is the project’s communications partner, responsible for managing the public website and social media accounts, delivering media training for I.Family’s researchers and raising awareness of the project through targeted media liaison.

“As an agency frequently engaged to support the communication activities of external organisations, NGOs and charities, it’s fantastic for us to celebrate the success of ‘one of our own’!” says Rhonda Smith, Director of Minerva and member of the I.Family Steering Committee.

“Improving the exchange of knowledge between scientists and key audiences – such as the public, media and policy-makers – is vital if research is to have the required impact.  We’re delighted that I.Family’s innovative approach has been recognised in this way and we’ll continue to build on this success across the entire scope of the project.”
