Dementia is rarely out of the news these days and for Admiral Nurses – the specialists who care for the family carers of those living at home with the devastating condition – this can sometimes mean entering the media spotlight. Professional healthcare workers are often called upon to provide an expert voice or clinical view on the human impact of diseases.
With their wealth of knowledge and practical experience, Admiral Nurses make ideal interview candidates or spokespeople for their charity, Dementia UK, and their clients – the people living with dementia every day. But sometimes the prospect of speaking to a journalist is a daunting one.
To help Admiral Nurses grow in confidence and make the most of media opportunities, Rhonda Smith, Director of Minerva, delivered a targeted media training workshop packed full of advice and ‘real-time’ interview exercises. Delegates were able to hone their on-camera presentation skills and gain real insight into how ‘the media’ works.
Their feedback following the event was overwhelmingly positive, with 100% rating the workshop ‘excellent’ and being ‘very likely’ to recommend it to their colleagues.
Some other comments from the day included: “Many thanks for an enjoyable and very useful day. Increased my confidence” and “Really good working groups and unpressured atmosphere. Very skilled facilitators.” And more lightly: “Great stuff – thank you! Can I bring you with me to my first interview?”
Well, Minerva can’t promise that… but it was glad everyone enjoyed the day so much! Here’s to the next training workshop in Manchester…
